About the Position

The Communications Associate will be an integral member of the team, primarily responsible for developing written materials for diverse audiences, including internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the Communications Associate will provide project management support in several areas, including research projects and grant reporting. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Communications Associate will work collaboratively with the senior leadership of SAP and across teams.   
We welcome candidates who are passionate about improving educational experiences and outcomes for all students, in particular those students who are most at risk (e.g., facing barriers such as poverty, racism). Candidates should thrive in a collaborative environment that emphasizes quality, analytical rigor, and critical thinking. This role is ideal for individuals with strong writing and communication skills, a passion for K-12 public education, and an interest in using data and evidence to drive change in educational outcomes for every student. 


  •  Lead and/or support the creation of various written materials in collaboration with SAP team members, including:  
    •  development-related materials (e.g., grant proposals and reports, funder meeting materials, RFP responses, presentations and other); 
    • research-related materials (e.g., literature reviews, case studies, research reports and summaries);
    • materials to communicate efficacy and impact of program work (e.g., presentations, reports, case studies etc.); and
    • internal reports and communications. 
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor development activities (e.g., grant reporting requirements).
  • Support research-related efforts, including project management for research projects or initiatives, in conjunction with the Senior Fellow for Research.
  • Edit and proofread written materials intended for external audiences (e.g., formal grant reports, research reports, case studies, presentations, etc.) 

Candidate Requirements 

  •  Associate or Bachelor Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2-3 years writing experience in communications, publishing, print media, sales support, proposal generation, marketing, or social science research 
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management skills or experience (preferred
  • Experience engaging in social science research (preferred)

  • Proven organizational skills and history of managing deadlines, expectations and competing priorities
  • Strong analytical skills 
  • Excellent technical and computer skills 
  • Effective working remotely, autonomously and collaboratively

  • High energy, flexible, resilient and able to maintain a sense of humor
  • K-12 education experience (preferred)
